How to Begin and End Embroidery Stitches
Embroidery can look quite beautiful whenever it is done correctly. Part of doing it correctly has to do with your beginning and ending stitches and how you do them. So, before you start another project, take some time to make sure you really do know how to do these things correctly.
Things You'll Need
- Embroidery Needles
- Embroidery Scissors
- Embroidery Threads
- Embroidery Yarns
- Embroidery Floss
- Embroidery Frames
- Embroidery Hoops
- Fabrics
- Embroidery Patterns
How to Begin Embroidery Stitches
- Thread your needle. Insert it through the backside of your fabric. Pull all but 1 or 2 inches of the unknotted thread up through the back of your fabric.
- Hold the loose end of your piece of thread down. Cover it with stitches as you work on your design. (Some people will make a few running stitches, backstitch, and then cover those stitches up as they work.)
- Slide your needle under the existing stitches on the backside of your fabric if you have already started working on your design.
- Leave the loose end of your thread under the stitches on the backside of your fabric so as to make the back look just as clean as possible.
How to End Embroidery Stitches
- Pull your needle down from the top to the back of your fabric.
- Slide your needle underneath of about 2 inches of the stitches on the back side of your fabric.
- Use a pair of scissors to get as close to the last stitch as possible before you snip off any of the remaining thread.
