How to Build Your Own Computer
Computers are an essential part of the lives of many individuals. In fact, it is almost a requirement for modern professionals to be able to competently operate a computer. However, computers are quite expensive for the average person; one way to reduce this expense is to build your own personal computer.
- Purchase a computer case that has a motherboard and central processing unit (CPU) installed. You can always install your own motherboard and CPU if you like, but the step is significantly more complicated than building the rest of a computer. You will also need any disc drives that you want installed, a power supply that can be installed in your chosen case, a sound card, a graphics card, a network card, and memory sticks, as well as peripheral devices, such as a keyboard and mouse.
- Connect the power supply to your computer case and install the memory sticks in their respective slots on the motherboard. Be sure to set the power supply to the level required by your processor and motherboard.
- Connect the motherboard and the case's fan to the power supply. Follow this step by installing the disc drives in the drive slots located in the case of your computer. The screws needed to install the drives should already be in the case, simply remove them and replace them once you have secured the drives in their slots. The drives can then be connected to the motherboard and power supply using the electronic drive electrical (EDE) cables that came with the disc drives.
- Install you network, graphics, and sound cards into the labeled slots on the motherboard. Recheck your connections and you should have an operating personal computer.
