How to Build an At-Home Barbecue Pit
A barbecue is a great way to spend time with family and friends. You don't need a fancy grill to have a barbecue, you can make your own barbecue pit at home. To learn how to build an at-home barbecue pit, follow the step-by-step guide in the article below.
Materials
- Shovel
- Bricks
- Scrap lumber
- Wood chips
- Wire rack
Step 1: Use your shovel to dig a hole. The hole should be at least three feet deep. You can make it a wide as you like.
Step 2: Line the hole with bricks. This will hold the dirt back and keep it from falling in on the fire and smothering the flames.
Step 3: Use the scrap lumber to build a box that is a little larger than the hole. You can also make your box out of metal if you want it a little bit more durable. You may want to add a handle to the box as well. This will act as the lid for your barbecue pit.
Step 4: Fill the hole 3/4 of the way with wood chips.
Step 5: Place the wire rack on top of the hole. This will be the grilling surface of the pit.
Step 6: Add your lid, and your barbecue pit is ready to go.
