How to Build an Outdoor Table
Outdoor tables can be functional and beautiful all at the same time. Wooden tables can be very easily made. Most outdoor wooden tables are made from cedar, teak, redwood or other treated woods. These types of woods repel water and withstand the elements. Local lumber yards have the specific wood and can cut them to the sizes you will need to build your table.
Items Needed:
- Wood
- Jig Saw
- Blocks
- Bar Clamp
- Glue
- 3 Inch Deck Screws
- Belt Sander
- Start your table by placing blocks on your worktable. Place a V in the middle of the block and cut with a jigsaw. Place the wood on the table so that the V is in front. Make sure to use two blocks for every bar clamp.
- Place glue on the corners of a 2-by-6-by-96-inch pieces wood. Move the wood together so the corners with glue are adjacent to an edge that has no glue. Next you will need to tighten the bar clamps and clean any glue left behind. Do this right away before the glue dries. Your tabletop is complete.
- Measure four 2-4s and cut 33 inches in length. Place 2-4s on a 1.5-inch edge. Next you will need countersink holes drill them halfway through so the 3-inch deck screws will sink to the bottom side of the top.
- Remove the clamps and any leftover glue with a knife. Use a belt sander to sand the tabletop. Make sure not to sand across the grain.
- Set the tabletop on the workbench and place upside down. Place glue at the bottom edge of the four 2-by-4s from Step 3. Place the boards 2 inches from the end of the table then space the rest of the pieces evenly. Place 3-inch deck screws in the wood to secure. Make sure you do not let the screw pierce the topside of the table.
