How to Care for Savannah Cats
A Savannah cat is a hybrid breed that is formed by crossing a Bengal and Siamese cat. These beautiful cats stand taller than the average cat, and have beautiful markings that resemble that of a leopard. This breed is easy to care for and can live for many years with proper care.
- Feed a Savannah cat a high-quality dry or moist cat food. You should choose a variety that is specifically made for indoor cats to ensure that it is getting the proper nutrition that it needs. Keep a fresh supply of water down at all times and provide food twice a day to prevent overeating.
- Take the Savannah cat to visit the veterinarian annually. The vet will provide the cat with a regular checkup that includes inspecting it for any health problems, as well as provide any vaccinations that the cat needs. Regular medical care is a great way to increase the lifespan of a Savannah cat.
- Trim the nails of a Savannah cat once every couple of weeks to keep prevent it from damaging items in the home or accidentally scratching someone. Press down on the pads of each paw gently to release the nail, and then trim it down using a pair of nail clippers designed for cats. You can purchase these at a nearby pet supply store.
- Play with the cat regularly and provide it with plenty of exercise. Savannah cats are very curious by nature and will love to play with you. Choose toys that encourage it to run and jump, as this will provide it with exercise so that it does not become overweight as well as help to burn off excess energy.
