How to Change Filters in Reverse Osmosis Systems

A reverse osmosis system filters water in your home to improve its taste. In most cases, the reverse osmosis system is installed in the utility room, or even a garage, in your house. The filters on this system have to be changed over time. It is simple to do, and can be done in a few short steps.

Supplies

  • Screwdriver

  1. Find the reverse osmosis system in your house. It may be in the garage or in your utility room. Look and see how many filters the system contains. There are many different types of reverse osmosis systems. Some systems have filters that are screwed on. Others might have a case that you can unscrew with the filter inside of it. Determine what kind of filters you have on your system.

  2. Reach the instruction manual for your reverse osmosis system to find out when you should change the filters on it. All systems are different and some filters may need to be changed more frequently than others. In some cases, you will only have to change your filters once per year. In other cases, it may be every 3 months.

  3. Use a screwdriver to unscrew the container that holds the filter in place, or unscrew the filters, depending what type you have. Install the new filter, ensuring that it is the correct one for your system. Once the new filter is installed, screw the cartridge cover back in place.  If you need help with this, read the instruction manual on how to install the filter for your particular reverse osmosis system.
