How to Charge for Embroidery Digitizing

Embroidery digitizing is the process of creating a digital image out of a piece of artwork so that it is suitable for use in industrial machine embroidery.   Companies will usually charge a fee per number of stitches or a set fee.  Whenever you are starting your own machine embroidery business, you will need to determine what to charge.

  1. Look at what online businesses are charging for embroidery digitization.  Keep in mind that large companies will charge less for digitization and some will even do it for free.  Understand that in most cases though, the cost for digitizing will be between $1.75 and $60.

  2. Consider how much digitization software costs.  Remember to factor in your overhead costs, including the amount of time it will take for you to digitize a piece of embroidery, especially if you're just learning how to use the software.

  3. Contact local machine embroidery businesses.  Inquire about their digitization prices so that you are sure not to under price or overprice your services.

  4. Set a base price for your digitization service.  Base this price on your overhead costs and the time that it will take to complete a very simple digitization piece.  Establish this as your minimum price for digitizing a graphic for embroidery.

  5. Establish some factors that will increase the price of the digitization process (i.e. the size, complexity, amount of detail).  Remember to include an extra fee for any rush jobs that you may encounter, as well as for those who need a quick turn-around time.

  6. Keep an eye on your prices to ensure that you remain competitive.
