How to Choose Massage Therapists

Finding a good massage therapist often takes some time unless the person can get a referral from a trusted source. The best way to determine the right therapist to use is often by giving the service a try. The cost of the individual therapy sessions can also impact the decision on which service to use.

  • Ask a friend or co-worker for a massage therapist recommendation. Find out how long your contact has been using the therapist and ask what the individual sessions cost. Contact the massage therapist to arrange a consultation if you want to try the service.

  • Look online to find massage therapists in your area if you cannot get a recommendation from a trusted source. Use a search engine to find local massage therapists who have websites. Review a therapist’s qualifications on the website and set up an appointment if you find one that you like.

  • Check the Yellow Pages to find a massage therapy service to try in your area. Read through the different ads to decide which therapist to contact. You can also look for information on the therapist online before making an appointment for therapy.

  • Call your general physician to get a massage therapist referral. If you cannot reach your physician, ask one of the support staff at the office for a good therapist to call. If you do get a recommendation, set up a consultation with the therapist and make sure to mention that the referral came from your physician’s office.

  • Contact a local day spa to find a massage therapist. Look online or in the Yellow Pages to find day spas in your area. Find out if a spa has a qualified therapist in house before you stop by. Ask the spa clerk how much a therapy session costs and then make an appointment if you decide to give the service a try.
