How to Clean Office Desks
You can spend over 40 hours a week sitting at your desk doing everything from signing reports to eating lunch to maybe even applying makeup. Because of this, your desk can get messy and dirty in a hurry. It is important to regularly clean your office desk to keep clutter to a minimum and also prevent any bacteria that may have taken up residence.
- Organize any loose documents by filing if possible or placing into piles to be sorted to file at a later date. A simple in and out box on your desk will give your coworkers a place to leave you notes, reducing the chance that they may get lost under other paperwork. Likewise, it will give you a place to put important outgoing documents.
- Remove as much as possible from your desk so that you can clean the surface. Wipe off or dust any knickknacks or small office supplies as you remove them. If you have a glass top desk, use a glass cleaner to eliminate any smudges or streaks. Wooden desks can be polished and other surfaces can be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
- Wipe the surface of your computer monitor with a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with an electronics cleaning solution.
- Shake your keyboard upside down to remove any loose crumbs and use compressed air or a small vacuum to rid any stubborn particles.
- Clean your computer keyboard and mouse as well as your phone thoroughly. These are great spots for bacteria, and can easily spread germs around the office if someone decides to take a call at your desk. Wipe them down with antibacterial wipes to rid bacteria.
- Replace everything back onto your desk in an organized manner. Having a spot for everything will help keep clutter to a minimum.
- Go through your desk drawers and throw away any unnecessary paperwork or supplies you may have accumulated. Try to designate drawers for different purposes and use them accordingly to make future organizing easier.
