How to Clean Patio Pavers Easily
Patio pavers are pretty low-maintenance but they do require occasional cleaning and upkeep. Luckily, cleaning pavers is an easy project. You will need to use some elbow grease and a few tools but it will be worth it. Power-washing is not recommended for pavers, as the force of the water can cause damage.
- Pull any weeds or grass that are growing between the pavers.
- Sweep all dirt and leaves off. Pay special attention to edges and corners where dirt collects.
- Mix mild dish detergent and water in a large bucket. You may also use oxygen bleach powder. Be sure not to use Chlorine bleach. Mix the oxygen bleach powder in a large bucket with water, following the directions on the box for amounts. Oxygen bleach powder is safe for use around pets, children and plants.
- Working on a small area at a time, place some of whichever solution you have decided to use on an area. Let it sit for a short period of time so it can work to dissolve the dirt.
- Using a deck brush with short stiff bristles, scrub the pavers in all directions.
- Rinse with the garden hose.
- Move on to the next section.
- Continue until all pavers have been scrubbed and rinsed.
- Allow the area to dry thoroughly before putting furniture back or walking on it.
- Some pavers may need more attention. If that is the case, you can go back over any that are still stained.
- In the future clean off any paint or oil stains immediately. Do not rub when cleaning, blot instead. Kitty litter may be used to absorb oil stains.
- For large areas of oil, you can try a degreaser from the home improvement store. Be sure to try it on small inconspicuous area of the paver first.
- Dried paint stains can be scraped off.
