How to Collect Italian Wine Labels

Italy is known for some great wines. Because of this, collecting labels is not that difficult of a hobby. It takes up little room and doesn't require the use of a special area, table or space to do. The most difficult portion of this hobby is peeling the labels off without ruining them.

  1. Create a selection of wine labels based on their unique design, fancy lettering, personal sentiments, and vintage dates or for whatever reason that you choose. There is no specific way to choose the type of Italian wine labels that you collect.

  2. Practice removing the labels of other wine bottles that you don't care if you ruin. The art of peeling any label off a bottle is a tricky one. Many businesses use adhesive backing on their labels that makes it difficult to remove.

  3. Soak the wine bottle in warm water overnight. To avoid filling the sink with bottles, using a two-liter bottle with the top cut off is an excellent way to soak the bottles as well as have the use of your sink. You can do this by filling the wine bottle with water so it doesn't bob and float in the two-liter container.

  4. In the morning, use a fine-blade knife or razor to peel the edges off of the bottle. If you are careful, you can use a razor to get the whole label off.

  5. Set the label somewhere that it can dry undisturbed. You do not want to take a hairdryer to the labels as it can distort the picture or design.

  6. Invest in an album or some other means to hold all your Italian wine bottle labels.
