How to Compare Embroidery Digitizing Software

Embroidery is a hobby enjoyed by many people. However, it has been expanded considerably in recent years, with the creation of a number of computer-based programs that make embroidery easier and takes some of the long processes out. There are a number of these software programs on the market with different needs in mind.

Considerations:

  • Look for software compatible with your computer. There are specifics with different embroidery software programs that may not make their use possible on your computer. Some do not work on Mac computers, for instance, while some are Windows only, and may not work with other operating systems, such as Linux.

  • Consider what the software program can do and make sure it is compatible with your needs. For instance, some programs only work with scanner-generated images, whereas others allow you to download internet files. Determine what you will be doing the most, and don't limit your applications.

  • How much creativity will the software allow? Some programs are very basic, allowing only small images and simple logos, whereas others allow for more complex images and designs. You know better than anyone else what type of images you are likely to be working with the software, so familiarize yourself with what it allows you to do.

  • Consider which software programs and manufacturers are known for their technical support and customer service. There are forums where people can give you guidance with their own testimonies. Manufacturer's websites can also give you some idea of services offered with their products.

  • Think about the warranties by the specific software programs, as well as options for upgrades. How easy is it to trade the product in for something else, or to get service on potential problems? How long is the warranty? Can the software be upgraded as skills improve?
