How to Connect DSL Modems and Linksys Routers for Wireless
Using a wireless router inside your home allows you to access the Internet without being tied down by cables. Multiple computers in your home can all connect to one central hub that broadcasts a signal throughout your entire home. Once you set up the equipment, your connection will remain open at all times.
Items Needed:
- DSL filter
- Linksys router
- Phone cord
- Ethernet cord
- Unplug your phone card from the wall and insert the DSL filter into the phone jack on your wall. Plug the telephone cord into the "Phone" port on the filter and run a second telephone cord from the "DSL" port to the back of your modem.
- Plug the Ethernet cord into the "Ethernet" port on the back panel of the modem. Insert the other end of the cord into the "Ethernet" port on your computer.
- Insert the power cable into the back of the modem and plug in your modem. Place the modem on a steady surface that is as high up as possible.
- Wait five minutes for the modem to start up and establish a signal.
- Open your network connections menu on your computer to locate the wireless signal. The connection will be strong, and it should be labeled "linksys."
- Click the connection name to open additional options and click "Connect." If the system prompts you to enter a network key, locate the key on the modem label. Look for a code that contains a combination of at least nine letters or numbers. Enter this number into the proper field and click "OK." Wait a few moments while the computer connects to the wireless network.
