How to Cancel AT&T DSL
Many people have trouble cancelling their AT&T Internet service. AT&T does not give cancellation information easily, and calls to the customer support center can be passed around and dropped. When the customer finally reaches an employee who can help cancel the account, he is typically offered more services in an attempt to stop the cancellation.
- Find your account number. The AT&T account number will be located on the last bill, typically in the upper right hand corner. You may be asked to verify the billing name, address and phone number. Keep the bill nearby during the call.
- Call the AT&T customer support number at 1-877-722-3755. Choose English or Spanish, and wait to be transferred to the automated voice line.
- Verify your phone number. The automated voice will ask whether the number you are calling from is the number on your account. If yes, you can continue to other options. If no, you need to enter the phone number associated with your account or confirm you do not know the number associated with the account.
- Select the DSL services option after verifying the phone number on the account. The AT&T phone system is voice operated, so clearly state the topic choice in a normal voice. Slowing down your speech or speaking loudly may confuse the automated system.
- Enter your account number after selecting DSL services. Refer to your bill for this information.
- Press zero to speak to a customer service representative. When the system connects you to a customer service representative, state that you would like to cancel your DSL service. The representative will offer you discounts, service bundles and will inquire about your reason for cancelling.
- Get the confirmation number. The confirmation number is proof of the cancellation. Record this number in case you are charged after the cancellation request.
