How to Convert Embroidery Designs

The Internet can be used for so many things, even creating embroidery designs.  Embroidery designs can be converted from old formats into new formats in order to increase their ease of use.  Following just a few easy steps can complete the conversion process simply, and easily for the enthusiast embroiderer.

For many crafters who enjoy embroidery, the ability to download and create original designs is key.  There are many new embroidery machines that have the ability to convert old embroidery into new formats, however, older machines do not have this capability.  If you prefer to use older designs, there is software available that will allow for the older formats to convert to newer formats.  Software such as the Magic Box will work with many different file extensions.  This software works with many different file extensions, and also allows for the user to transfer designs to local hard drives, create original designs, or download existing designs.

  1. Connect the Magic Box to your computer using a standard USB connection.  Once the connection is live, double click on the “magic box” shortcut located on your desktop.

  2. Insert an embroidery card into the appropriate slot.  The user manual will help the user identify which card slots can be used with each card.

  3. Select “file” and then select “open” in order to look inside the “OESD Designs” folder in order to locate a design to convert.  Select the file for conversion, and select “open”.  These steps will place the design onto the Magic Box card.

  4. Select “file” and then select “save as”.  From the available options, choose “save as type” located at the bottom of the window.  Consulting the user manual, ensure that you select the correct file extension for your particular embroidery machine.

  5. Click “save".  The conversion process is now complete in the desired file format.  Continue converting other files, or end the conversion session.
