How to Create a Plan for an Embroidery Business
Most schools, sports teams, and small businesses require clothing with their logo. Embroidery stores can sew the logos on the clothing that the individual chooses. Customers would rather use a local store than send it off to a large company. It is easier to get merchandise with someone local.
- Create a business plan. Include the types of embroidery service that will be offered. Include the businesses you will provide service to. For example, schools (sports teams), corporate (business designs), and custom design (photos or personal design).
- Make a list of start up and overhead cost. Include equipment, digital software, and thread in the start up cost. Overhead cost includes t-shirts, polo shirts and hats. Retail space, marketing, and labor are also included in overhead cost.
- Decide how much to charge your customers. The price will include the clothing, the thread, and the design fee. Also add an hourly charge for your employee completing the order. That will be the final price for the customer. Designs can be very detailed. They can take hours to be digitized using your digital software.
- Create a marketing plan to promote your business. Place ads in the local newspaper. Contact the local schools and businesses to let them know of the new service you are offering. Attend local small business meetings to meet people who may want to hire you for your services.
- Set financial goals for the year. The goal should include the number of orders you want to have done by the end of the year. It should also include the day to day cost of running the new business.
