How to Decorate Cupcakes Using Ice Cream Cones

If you are looking for a unique decorating idea for your cupcakes, you can use ice cream cones to decorate the cupcakes to look like clowns. This is a great idea for a child’s birthday party or school snack that is sure to be a crowd pleaser.

1. Bake your cupcakes as you normally would and then allow them to cool thoroughly. You should follow the directions on the back of your cake mix box for mixing the cake mix. You will also find the baking directions for the amount of time that they recommend for you to bake your cupcakes.

2. Place your cupcakes on a flat working surface that will allow you to have enough room to make your clown cupcakes.

3. Place a thick coating of frosting on the top of each cupcake; be sure that you use enough icing to attach your ice cream cones to the top of each cupcake.

4. Place your ice cream cones on the top of your frosted cupcakes facing slightly towards the back so that the ice cream cone is pointing backwards slightly.

5. Choose candy decorations to make the eyes, nose and mouth of your funny faced clowns. Popular choices are Twizzlers, gum drops and M & Ms. However, you can use any type of candy that you would like.

6. Attach the candy to the surface of the front of your cupcake face to make your funny faced clown designs using a small amount of icing to securely hold them in place.

7. Allow the cupcakes to sit for at least an hour before moving them, so that the icing has a chance to set in place. This will help to keep your candy and ice cream cones from skipping around when you move them.
