How to Decorate Wedding Cakes
The cost of a wedding can potentially become insurmountable. To save money, individuals have turned to making their own wedding cakes to help stifle costs related to their memorable day. With proper research and planning, you can create your own, giving it your own personal flair.
Things You Will Need:
- Boxed Cake Mix or Recipe
- Frosting or Fondue
- Cake Leveler
- Cake Décor and/or Embellishments
- Baking Pan(s)
- Decorating Tools
- Conduct research on wedding cake themes, styles and designs, and select the cake you wish to have for your big wedding day. Note: Keep in mind that the design and style need to be factored in when determining the amount of cake required for your wedding guests.
- Find and gather your cake-baking and decorating supplies, including a recipe or boxed cake mix, frosting, decorating tools and baking pan(s). Keep in mind, however, that your supply list will depend on your desired result, as well as your budget.
- Bake your cake following your chosen recipe or boxed cake mix instructions. Use sturdy baking pan(s) for quality baking. If your chosen cake has tiers, utilize a cake leveler for an even stacked construction.
- Frost or fondue the exterior of the cake after leveled and cooled. Fondue will give the cake a smooth look; however, frosting often tastes better. Should you opt for fondue, you have the option of placing a thin layer of frosting underneath the fondue application for taste and ease of fondue application.
- Assemble the cake’s tiers, should you have any. Otherwise, skip to the next step.
- Add edible decorations. Practice on a board before applying frosted or fondue décor.
- Add other décor and embellishments; however, save floral and plastic embellishments as last minute add-ons.
