How to Determine Wedding Cake Size
A wedding is one of the most special times in anyone's life. It can also be an incredibly stressful situation to plan. It is important to plan out details in advance so there is time to prepare for everything. The cake is one of the most attention-drawing items at a wedding and knowing what size it needs to be is an important detail that is necessary to know before ordering.
While planning a wedding there may be times where the choices seem overwhelming and endless; from decorations, to location, invitations, music and so on. The one thing that shouldn't be too stressful is determining how big the cake should be.
When deciding on a cake, not only is it important to pick out a design and a flavor that is likeable by both the bride and groom, but it is important to decide how large the cake will be. If the wedding is set to be a small, private celebration with few people, a small cake should suffice. However, if the wedding is going to be the celebration of the year with mass amounts of people in attendance, it may be a bit more difficult to determine the size.
- Know the number of guests that are coming. This will prove to be the most helpful tip in determining the size. Check the guest list to find out the number of people planning on showing up.
- Learn how much a serving of cake is. Keep in mind that not every cake is created the same. One cake may have a serving size as big as the plate, while another cake may be considerably smaller.
- Add an additional amount to the total of servings thought to be needed. It's not uncommon for people to want a second helping of cake, especially if it tastes amazing.
- Consider leftovers. If the wedding party wants to take leftovers with them, the amount of cake should be increased.
- Talk with the company, or person, designing the wedding cake. Most likely, if the wedding party has opted to use a cake company, that company will be able to explain servings and numbers in greater detail.
