How to Do Hand Embroidery
Embroidery is a great way to make gifts or accentuate fabric. Learning the basic embroidery stitches by hand can take time and practice. The biggest key factor to success in hand embroidery is practice, practice and more practice. Here’s how to do a basic embroidery stitch:
Purchase a printed pattern to begin practicing.
Thread the embroidery needle with the color thread you wish to use.
Working from right to left, push the needle through the fabric on the right, from the back to the front.
Pull the thread upward, leaving approximately one inch of thread hanging in the back of the fabric.
Push the needle back through the fabric approximately one inch from the first hole.
Insert the needle halfway between the first stitch.
Pull the thread through the fabric and then insert the needle approximately one inch from the last stitch.
Continue this stitching pattern until you have completed the entire line of the pattern.
