How to Do Window Treatments Without Putting Holes in the Wall
There are times when putting holes into a wall in order to hang window treatments is not possible. You may have an older home with walls that easily crumble when you try to nail into it, which makes it a nightmare to try to hang anything. Or you may have a landlord who will not allow holes to be made for any reason. Fortunately there are ways to hang window treatments without putting any holes in the wall.
- Use a tension rod. A tension rod will adjust to the width of your window, the rod sits firmly between the window jams on each side. There is no hardware needed.
- Try adhesive hook cups. These are not the most attractive solution but there are ways to cover the hook. These hooks stick to the corners of the window frame, you can then lay the curtain rod on to the cups to hold it up.
- Magnetic curtain rods are quick and easy to use if your windows have magnetic frames. They will hold themselves up by the magnetic force.
- Hook and loop fasteners. Measure the width of your window, and cut hook and loop tape to this size. Place the curtain on a flat surface with the back facing you, peel the backing on the hook tape and firmly press the hook tape across the back top of the curtain. Peel the backing on the loop tape and press that firmly against the window frame. Attach the hooks on the back of the curtain to the loops on the wood.
- Purchase Readi shades. These shades do not require any tools and do not leave any permanent marks. They are easy to install in less than a minute. You place the shade inside your window frame, press a button and your shade is locked in place.
- Consider fabric squares. Cut squares out of light-colored cotton, you can then place the cotton squares into a bowl filled with liquid starch until the fabric is soaked with starch. Place the fabric on your window and smooth it out. It will dry and stick to the window. The light colors allow sunlight to shine through. When you want to take them down, they are easy to remove.
