How to Download a QuickTime Internet Music File

Computer users can listen to song files through a variety of media players. Apple's Quicktime plays videos and songs, and many websites host songs in Quicktime format. With a few simple steps, you can download these songs directly from websites onto your computer's hard drive.

  1. Hold the "Control" key while clicking on the song file link in Safari or Firefox on Mac computers. In Firefox, this opens up an options menu. Click on "Save Link As..." to begin the download process. From the file folder, select your music library as a download destination and click "OK." If you are using Safari on a Mac, you will select "Download Linked File" from the drop-down menu. This will automatically download the song and save it in your download location.

  2. Use the same steps to download a quicktime music file if you are using the Firefox browser on a Windows-based PC. Right-click the song file link and click "Save Link As..." and choose a destination folder.

  3. Follow these same steps if you use Internet Explorer. The text will read "Save Target As..." but the download process remains the same.

  4. Open your destination file to locate the song. Double-click on it to play the song. You can also import the song directly into your preferred media player by using the program's import function. Keep all of your downloaded songs in one single location to reduce the amount of time it takes to import media files.
