How to Drain Cell Phone Batteries

If you need to drain the battery in your cell phone, there are a few ways you can do it. If you plan on putting a cell phone away for a while, it is best to drain the battery first. The batteries in cell phones are lithium ion batteries, and storing them fully charged can lower the storage capacity of them.

  1. Place the cell phone battery in the cell phone and turn the phone on. Leave the phone on until the battery is fully drained. Depending upon what type of cell phone you have, this can take up to a few days. Using the phone will speed up the process somewhat. An older cell phone battery will drain much faster than a newer one.

  2. Enable the wireless service you use on the cell phone, such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Using these services will cause the battery to drain much quicker. Navigate to Settings or Options on your phone to turn on Bluetooth or Network. If you don’t know how to turn these settings on, refer to your owner’s guide for directions.

  3. If you are using a Smartphone, play a game or watch a movie on your phone. This will drain the battery quicker because certain applications use more battery to power them.

  4. If your phone is set to alarm you when the battery is low, you may want to turn this off. You can usually find this option in the Settings menu. Refer to your owner’s guide if you need help.

  5. Leave your phone in your pocket. The battery on a hot phone will drain much quicker than a phone that is left out and is cooler.
