How to Drive Safe, Avoid Tickets and Save Money

Breaking traffic laws can be very expensive. In addition to the cost of traffic fines, it can also increase your auto insurance rate. Worse yet, if you get in an accident you could face even greater financial liabilities. Driving safely can save you a lot of money by avoiding tickets and accidents.

  1. Obey the speed limit. Buying a radar detector doesn't protect you from being caught by police cars that pace you or airplanes and helicopters that monitor traffic. In addition it's not always legal to use them. Driving the speed limit will save you the headache of a speeding ticket and will make buying a radar detector unnecessary.

  2. Don't run red lights. In addition to potentially causing an accident which results in injury or even death, running through red lights can result in a large fine, especially if your picture is captured by a red light camera.

  3. Drive defensively. Check for cars in your blind spots by looking physically to your side and rear when you are about to change lanes. Keep your distance from other cars so that you have at least two seconds to hit your brakes; leave even more distance from the vehicle ahead of you in the case of rain, snow or ice.
