How to Find Hidden Bank Accounts

It’s unfortunate, but when people go through divorces or other situations where assets need to be divided that hidden bank accounts become an issue. If you need to find a hidden bank account you’ll have to spend some time pulling together paperwork and tax returns.

Hidden bank accounts are often an issue when divorce is involved. If you suspect that your spouse is hiding a bank account, then you will need to know how to go about finding it. Because the banks cannot give you this information you will need to go to other sources. Here are a few other ways that you can find information on hidden bank accounts.

  • Review all possible bank statements and go through the necessary mandatory disclosure as well. Take the time to make notions of all bank account and routing numbers as well as the date of the statements and the bank’s name. If there are monthly statements missing, then request them.

  • Look over every statement that you have very carefully. Pay attention to any transfers to another bank account. If there have been transfers, then go through the other statements to see if you have any for this particular bank account. If there aren’t any, then you will need to make a notion of this. This includes the amount that has been transferred in or out of this particular bank account.

  • Go over tax returns to find any automatic deposits to a bank account you do not know. Take note of the bank account number as well as the routing number to the statements that you already have. If you do not have the statements to this bank account, then make a notion of it.

  • Make a request for production. This will allow you to obtain bank statements from the other person. If the statements are not produced, then a court order will be necessary.
