How to Find Secondhand Furniture
Having your own place to live can be expensive. With rent, heat, electricity and water bills, there may not be not a lot of money left over. If you have just moved and need to fill your empty space, you may be surprised at how costly furniture can be. However, if you purchase secondhand items, you can save a lot of money enabling you to live comfortably and still pay your bills.
- Visit some garage sales in your area. Garage sales are notorious for having very cheap prices, and if need be you may be able to barter with the seller. Just be aware, however, that you will most likely have to move the furniture yourself.
- Look on college posting boards either online or at the university. If you search at the ends of semesters, there is a very good chance that a student will be moving and will need to get rid of their furniture quickly. Oftentimes this furniture has only been used for a short period of time while the student was in college and is still in very good condition.
- Check the classifieds section of your local newspaper for furniture for sale. You may also be able to access an online version of the newspaper saving you some money and making it more convenient for you to search.
- Search online with websites such as Craigslist. Craigslist has a section dedicated to furniture and sellers often include pictures so you can see the item before deciding if you want to go look at it. It is also a good idea to check the free section on Craigslist as secondhand furniture is often posted in this category.
- Visit a thrift shop. Many times secondhand stores accept furniture and will sell it for great prices. Tables, chairs, accent tables and desks are commonly carried at thrift stores.
- Pay attention to announcement boards in grocery stores, libraries and community centers. People commonly post available items, and you may stumble upon a piece of furniture for sale for a cheap price.
