How to Find Wireless Internet Access on the Road

Using wireless Internet at home is extremely easy when you have a wireless network set up. However, when you are away from home, you may not know how to stay connected to the Internet. Luckily, there are many different ways to get Wi-Fi on the road.

  • Check with local restaurants and eateries. Most McDonalds and Starbucks offer free wireless Internet. Do not simply sit in the dining room and begin to use the Internet. The wireless Internet that is offered is a courtesy for paying customers. Make sure that you purchase something before soaking up the free Internet.

  • Go to a local library. Unlike restaurants, wireless is offered for free without any expectations of purchasing anything. You may need to go into the building and get a password from the librarian before using the Internet.

  • Find a hotel that offers wireless Internet when you are travelling on the road. You will find that most hotels now offer wireless for its customers. Be sure to find out if there is any charge for wireless services. Although some hotels offer wireless for free, many charge a nominal fee for the use during your stay.

  • Do an online search to find public Wi-Fi hotspots. You will find several different websites, such as JiWire, that will help you find wireless hotspots across the globe. Use these sites to pinpoint areas where you can access free Internet access. Remember that it is illegal and unethical to use a private network that is not password protected; use public hotspots for wireless service.
