How to Find a Christian Music Publisher

You are having fellowship with God/Jesus Christ/Holy Ghost by reading your Bible and listening to your favorite Christian musical artist. You can feel the presence of God in a mighty way. This is no ordinary devotional time. You get out your pen and notebook and begin to write, as the Holy Ghost begins to speak to your heart. Before you know it, you have a beautiful song on your hands, thanks be to God.

  1. Pray to God. God is all knowing and all seeing. If you go to Him with a hungry heart to serve Him, full of faith that can move mountains (all you need is a piece of faith, the size of a mustard seed), you can be sure that He will lead you to the right people. These people will lead you to the place you need to be. Just be sure that you are entering this career for the right reason: to give God the glory. If you have the right intentions, God and all of Heaven will back you up. Don't forget that the only way to get God's attention is to repent of any sin not confessed, and go before Him in the name of His Son Jesus Christ.

  2. Talk to your worship leader. Do this especially if you belong to a mega church. Mega churches can attract well-known pastors who have connections to the Christian music publishing scene. Well-known pastors of mega churches often have superior choirs and praise and worship teams who have made recordings. Make an appointment to speak with your church's worship leader to discuss getting your foot into the door. If you are not a member of a mega church (mega churches are churches that have a membership list that starts in the thousands), check out your town's local mega church and make an appointment with the worship leader.

  3. Buy a copy of the "Songwriters Market." This book has information about the different songwriting publishing companies currently in business. The information includes Christian music publishers, the type of songs they publish and put out, where to send submissions and how much a person can expect to be paid if his song is selected for publication.

  4. Check out EMI Christian Music Group and Word Publishing. Write a query letter of introduction explaining why you are writing. Ask for an appointment with someone. Just be patient, praying the whole time. God will lead you into the right person.
