How to Fix Shower Plumbing
Your shower is such a vital aspect of your life and when it has issues, you might not be able to shower or your walls experience the wrath of water damage. However, if you know how to fix your shower's plumbing, you can have the shower fixed in a jiffy and at a much smaller cost than what your neighborhood plumber charges.
Items Needed:
- Solder
- Flux
- Couplings
- New copper pipe
- Wrench
- Saws
- Water key
- Emery cloth
- Small paintbrush
- Examine your shower’s spigot for leaks. Check the shower head, as well. Try repairing the issue or replacing the leaking item. If you cannot determine the root of the problem, access the internal plumbing, located inside of the wall. Take notice any damaged or leaking pipes.
- Shut off the water to the entire house to work on the pipes.
- Continue look for the leak or damaged pipe, if you have not already found it.
- Fix leaks in the actual water line pipes by either tightening the joint with a wrench. You may need to replace the entire pipe for extensive damage issues.
- Replace your copper pipes by removing the damaged section using a tubing cutter. You must continuously turn the cutter over the area you want cut in order to detach it from the other piping. Do the same thing to both sides until the section is completely removed.
- Measure the section of pipe you need for both length and diameter. Purchase the correct size.
- Use an emery cloth to sand down the end of your couplings, new pipe and your old pipes. Apply a thin layer of flux to the ends of each device using a small paintbrush.
- Attach the couplings to the new pipe by pressing them.
- Bond the new pipe and couplings to the old pipes using solder.
