How to Get Fitted for Golf Clubs
It is a whole new world of golf clubs compared to what was available just 10 years ago. It used to be that fitted clubs meant standard clubs cut down for you after your arms were measured. Now, fitted clubs may mean a shaft from one company, a head from another and the grip from a third. Getting the right balance is easier than ever before.
- Do a bit of research before you get your clubs fitted. Make sure you are dealing with a reputable business and a knowledgeable fitter who can answer any of your questions during the process.
- Step into the golf simulator. The fitter will ask to take a few swings with an iron and a few swings with a wood. The simulator assesses your swing and tells the fitter your swing speed, launch angle and golf ball spin.
- Get measured. The fitter must take several measurements from you, including your height and weight. A key measurement is the distance between your wrist and the ground when you are in "address" position.
- Discuss your game with the fitter. It's impoortant that you are honest about your ganme. Do not exaggerate your strengths or downplay your weaknesses. The fitter may be particularly interested in the distance and height of your shots.
- Examine the footage from the simulator with your fitter. You may discuss areas you need to work on and what the fitter can do with your custom clubs in order to help correct any errors. The entire fitting process should take between 15 to 20 minutes, and the clubs generally take two to six weeks to arrive.
