How to Increase Vitamin B12 Intake
Vitamin B12 is vital for everyone to take. B12 helps give you energy, and without it, you will feel extremely lethargic. If you are not getting enough vitamin B12 in your diet, there are steps that you can take to boost your levels.
- Take a multivitamin daily. This will often be sufficient to make up for any deficiency that your body may have of B12. Some people also find it helpful to take a B12 supplement once daily. If your doctor is concerned, they can give you a B12 shot, which will immediately boost low levels.
- Drink more dairy and eat more dairy products. Dairy is rich in several vitamins, including B12. Drink at least one glass of milk each day; any type of white milk will do fine. Also, increase your intake of cheese and yogurt. Each of these will also help with your B12 levels.
- Eat more meats. One of the healthiest foods that you can eat is beef liver. Although most people prefer not to eat it, it is rich in many vitamins and minerals, especially B12. Also, other red meats are rich in B12.
- Take a fish oil capsule daily or eat fish at least twice a week. An increase in fish will help your B12 levels rise dramatically. Almost any type of fish will suffice.
- Check the foods in your home to see which ones are fortified with B12. Many items are that you wouldn’t suspect, especially cereals.
