How to Increase a Cable Speed

Technological advancements have led to the need for faster Internet connections. Users want access to a lot of information and they need it fast. The availability of multimedia pages on the web has led to the need for increased speeds in order to down load large files. An individual’s cable connection is limited by the speed that is supported by the service provider.

  • Visit or contact your service provider and enquire about faster speeds. Upgrading the service is often available at an additional cost.

  • Inspect all the connections to ensure that the cable is well fixed both at the connection with the wall and the modem. Check to ensure all the wires are in excellent condition and there are no frayed edges. Any exposed wires should be replaced immediately. You can get a technician to inspect the modem and the connections outside the house.

  • Look for any software that might be running automatically and using your bandwidth. The software might be running updating programs on the Internet thereby slowing down your access.

  • Close down any file sharing software that you are not using. The programs use a lot of bandwidth and should be turned on only when necessary.

  • Turn off the programs you are not using at that moment to free up the computers power and memory. If you have programs that you do not use at all, disable them. Some of these programs start automatically every time you turn on the computer or Internet. Delete them permanently.

  • Increase the amount of disk space that your browser allows for temporary Internet files. Doing this allows room for more pages to be included resulting in faster loading and faster viewing every time you visit the sites.

  •  Install effective anti-virus software. Regularly using good anti-virus and anti-spyware software will improve the performance. They clean up the system effectively leading to faster browsing. The best anti-virus software is not necessarily the most expensive. You can get free yet good software on the Internet.
