How to Install Lighting on Sidewalks
Installing lighting on your sidewalks can drastically enhance the overall appearance of your landscape. Not only do they look good, but they also provide a lighted pathway when you or visitors are entering the house at night, which can also be a great safety measure. The lights are fairly inexpensive and easy to install.
How to Install Lighting on Sidewalks
- Use a tape measure to measure the length of your sidewalk to determine how many lights will be needed.
- Go to your local home improvement store and purchase the lights. The easiest type of light to install would be the solar sidewalk light, which has a large solar panel that can be placed where there is a lot of sun exposure. A flexible wire is then connected to the solar light itself.
- Remove the lights from the package and separate the lights from the solar panel and flexible cord. There should not be a problem positioning the solar panel located to sun exposure because the cord is long.
- Insert the bulbs into the sockets of the lights. This should be done by twisting off the top and inserting the bulb.
- Push the light into the ground using the stake at the end. Do not apply too much pressure when pushing because it is made of plastic and it could damage the light. Place the lights on both sides of the sidewalk with each one approximately two feet apart and place the panel in a location where it is going to get plenty of sunlight.
