How to Make Cheap Furniture Look Expensive

Furniture is a major part in making a home feel like a home. However, in today’s economy, purchasing expensive furniture may not always be a priority. Furnishing your home on a budget doesn’t sound like fun when you think of all the chic designer furniture that is out there. With a few little tricks, you can make your cheap furniture look extravagant and luxurious.

  1. Accessorize. There are numerous ways that you can play up a cheap piece of furniture with accessories. Throw pillows are a great way to spruce up any couch, whether it was cheap or expensive. Make the color of a cheap couch pop with decorative patterned pillows that are sure to turn heads. Slipcovers are also a great way to completely change the look of a couch.

  2.  Dress up cheap end tables with a set of unique lamps. This will take the focus off of the cheap tables and put the focus on the lamps. Set decorative place settings and a gorgeous centerpiece on a cheap dinning table to add dimension to the room.

  3. Use complimenting décor. When a space is nicely decorated, as long as the colors coordinate, everything else will fall into place. Use rugs, curtains, pictures, and vases to add colors and textures all over the room. Even greenery and flowers will take away the focus of the cheap furniture and create an open airy space for you and your guest to enjoy.

  4. Refinish or update the hardware on the cheap furniture. Refinish any wooden parts of the cheap furniture such as the legs of a sofa, a dinning room table , or a coffee table. Darker shades of wood finish tend to be richer and create a sense of cost to any item. Purchase new handles to put on a cheap dresser to personalize and update the look of a cheap dresser.
