How to Make Costume Wigs

Do-it-yourself projects can give you a sense of pride, which always adds to the enjoyment of any occasion. With the Halloween season heading in our direction at a rapid pace, you may be in need of a costume wig. This could be the opportunity you have been waiting for.

Things You'll Need:

  • Styrofoam head

  • Comb

  • Wig cap

  • Hair

  • Bonding glue

  • Styling utensils

  • Scissors

  1. Determine the style, hair type and kind of wig you would like, and whether or not you will be using human hair of synthetic.

  2. Make a trip to your local hair supply store, and gather all the products you need for your project. You can find a Styrofoam head, weft hair, wig cap, and bonding glue all conveniently in one place. They even have all the styling tools you will need.

  3. Set up the area in your home where you will be working in with all the products you found at the beauty supply store. Place the Styrofoam head on a table with the wig cap on it.

  4. Use the glue to apply hair to the wig cap in sections, starting at the bottom, being careful not to dislodge freshly applied hair. Bangs should be added last.

  5. Allow the hair to dry a minimum of 2 1/2 hours. You can check the top to make sure it is completely dry by the end of this time.

  6. Touch up your wig by trimming the hair if needed, and then use the styling tools to add some curls. If you used human hair, heated styling tools will work but should not be used on synthetic.
