How to Style Costume Wigs
Halloween and other costume events are special times to live in a fantasy world for a few moments, and pretend you are a voluptuous blonde or the red-headed cheerleader or a black-haired witch. A wig can be an addition to a costume that gives your costume that extra oomph and realistic appeal.
Supply List
- Wig
- Mannequin head
- Comb/brush
- Hair coloring (optional)
- Scissors (optional)
- Wig hairspray
- Wig styling spray
- Hair accessories
- Choose a wig that is similar to the look you are trying to achieve. Decide if you want your hair short or long.
- Brush or comb the hair you are using for your costume prior to styling.
- Cut the hair to the necessary length, if you desire. You might have to cut the hair, if you want the wig that has a particular hairstyle such as the bob. If you are not the best at cutting hair, you might want to just trim the hair straight across.
- Dye the wig the appropriate color. You can use hair dye to color the entire wig or to add highlights. If you choose non-typical hair colors such as orange or pink, use spray-on hair color. Add spray-on glitter or any other special coloring techniques.
- Decide whether you want the hair straight, curly or wavy. If you opt for straight hair, use a blow dryer on a low-heat setting along with a small amount of water or a wig styling spray. To curl, use a low-heat curler set. For curlers that do not heat up, use a blow dryer on a low setting to dry the hair, while the curlers are in place. Remove the curlers and give the hair time to cool.
- Use ponytail holders, bobby pins, barrettes or other hair accessories to finish styling your wig.
- Spray the hair using a wig hairspray to keep your style in place throughout the duration of the function.
