How to Make Custom Embroidery Machine Patterns
Machine embroidery design is made up of graphics, or some form of art form digitizes and transferred to an embroidery machine. The pattern or design is transferred to fabric and create intricate designs on clothing and to household items such as table runners and tablecloth.
Things you will need:
- Printed artwork
- Auto trace illustrator (optional)
- Internet access
- Use quality printed artwork when you make your embroidery pattern. If you use your child's artwork, use quality paper to make copies so the artwork would digitize properly and look good. Choose designs that show clean lines with minimal color and a crisp appearance when you design your pattern. Digitize your artwork using vector file or jpeg file when you use high-resolution work. Since, they tend to provide better embroidery design quality. Consider also using your favorite graphic program to create your own design, and then convert the image created to different formats.
- Scan the artwork you created and download it into your embroidery program. Make sure that you use the correct format so your embroidery machine program will recognize the format and digitize the design properly.
- Look at the design to see if it requires editing. Sometimes you have to make changes after you create your own design because the edges may not appear sharp enough, or the color combination may not have the appearance you want. Make any changes before you start transferring the design to your embroidery machine to stitch.
- Consider using an auto trace illustrator tool to help design your patterns. Of course, you can manually use your embroidery digitizing software to produce your own design. Practice digitizing your design until it comes out in the manner you expect, and don't give up.
- Consider taking some embroidery digitizing classes as well. There are numerous digitizing classes available online as well as videos you can watch to help you improve your design and create better patterns.
