How to Compare Analog Clocks and Digital Clocks

How to Make Digital Clocks Work

Digital clocks are very convenient because they brightly display the time and can be seen from a small distance. These clocks have a number of components that make up the device. Each of these components work together for the digital clock to function correctly.

A digital clock uses a glass crystal in within the unit to send signals within the clock. The clock produces something called an electric charge. When the electric charge is sent out, it meets the crystal and then passes through it. While this happens you can hear a small clicking sound. If you listen closely to the unit while it changes from one number to the next, you’ll be able to detect this clicking sound as the electric current is meeting with the crystal.

After the current passes through the crystal it creates something called a hertz signal. This signal is the mind of the clock. It tells the digital clock how many seconds have passed and when it is time to change the digital display shown on the front of the clock. Each time the crystal sends the current and creates a hertz signal, the clock display changes by one minute.

The LED lights used within a clock display the time on the outside of the unit. Each time the hertz signal is received, the LED lights receive a signal that tells them to change their form. The numbers on the clock change by lighting up and turning off these small circles that create the display of time.
