How to Make Homemade Wooden Clocks
Clocks not only serve the practical purpose and informing you of the time, but the aesthetic appeal of enhancing the decor in a room. While wood clocks can sometimes be costly, you can make one at home for a less expensive option. You might be good enough at woodwork that it is even better than a store-bought version.
Items Needed:
- Wood
- Clock mechanism
- Picture hook
- Drill
- Stain
- Clean polyurethane
- Circular saw
- Paintbrush
- Compass
- Wood pencil
- Decide on a workspace, preferably on a workbench or other similar location with plenty of room.
- Organize the tools required to finish the project.
- Trace a circle on a piece of plywood for the face of your clock. The circle should be 12 inches or more in diameter. Use a circular shape to trace or use a compass to make the shape. Doing it freehand more than likely will not produce the same results.
- Use a circular saw and cut the shape you just drew out.
- Drill a hole directly in the center of your circle.
- Sand around the edges of the circle.
- Paint stain on the circle using a paintbrush and a stain of you are choosing. You only need to apply stain around the edges and on the face of the clock; however, you can put stain on the back if you would like.
- Apply two coats of a clear polyurethane finish to anywhere you stained, and be sure to allow it to dry in between coats.
- Attach picture hooks to the back of the clock. Add the clock mechanism, as well.
- Connect the hands of the clock through the hole with the hands in front, and the back piece attached to the clock mechanism.
- Place the numbers on the clock. You may want to use a ruler to evenly space the numbers to the face of the clock.
