How to Reset Radio-Controlled Atomic Clocks
A radio-controlled, or atomic clock, has small receivers inside of them that allow them to receive broadcast time signals from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). These signals are constantly broadcast to provide you with the most accurate time.
Items Needed:
- Batteries (optional)
- Radio-controlled clock
- Locate the battery that powers the radio-controlled atomic clock and remove it. Allow at least 60 seconds to pass before moving to the next step.
- Install a new battery inside the battery compartment.
- Make sure that the clock has been formatted to the correct time zone. If not, adjust the clock to the correct time zone before moving to the next step. You can complete this step by utilizing the "Time Zone" button. It is very important to complete this step in order for the clock to display the correct time.
- Allow your radio-controlled atomic clock to do its self-adjustment. Within the clock, a radio receiver both receives and decodes the NIST radio signal. As a result of this process, the correct time is able to be displayed. This process can take up to five minutes depending on the model and design of the internal radio receiver on your device.
- Your atomic clock should now be adjusted correctly and receiving a signal. However, if your radio-controlled atomic clock is still having trouble receiving NIST radio time signal you can position it close to a window that faces Fort Collins, Colorado.
