How to Make Fuzzy Flip Flops
Flip flops can be fun to wear and are oftentimes very inexpensive. However, they can also be drab, coming in one color and not acting as much of an accessory to your outfit. If you want to add some style to your flip flops (and perhaps some warmth), why not consider adding some fuzz to turn them into fuzzy flip flops? The process is easy and requires little time and materials.
Items Needed:
- Flip flops
- Scissors
- Crochet hook
- Yarn (any fuzzy type or combinations that you desire)
- Begin by taking two long pieces of yarn and pairing them together. You can leave the rest of the yarn spooled to prevent making any unnecessary cuts and wasting yarn. Two pieces of yarn will add more fuzz to the flip flops, but you can always choose to use one piece if you so desire.
- Tie the paired yarn strands to one of the straps of the flip flop where the strap lays by the side of the foot (don’t start at where the straps go between the toes).
- Take the crochet hook and position it under the strap. Hook the yarn with the crochet hook and carry it over the strap. With the crochet hook now above the strap, hook the yarn again and loop it through the loop on the crochet hook.
- Leave the loop on the crochet hook, and repeat the process of hooking the yarn above and below the strap. Then pull the yarn through both loops to create a double stitch.
- Continue the process for the entire length of the flip flop. Follow the bend at the toes, and work your way down to the other end of the strap.
- Cut the yarn when you reach the other end of the flip flop strap, leaving approximately six inches to tie a knot. Wrap the yarn around the hook and pull it under and all the way through to release the crochet hook.
- Tie a final knot with the yarn to secure it to the strap. Then pull the yarn back through a few stitches with the crochet hook and cut off the rest of the yarn.
- Repeat the entire process with the other flip flop to complete your matching set!
