How to Make Grape Wine
It is fairly simple to make homemade wine. You can purchase grapes from your local grocery store. White, red or concord grapes are great for making wine. The following article will teach you the steps necessary to make your own grape wine at home.
How to Make Grape Wine
1. You will need:
- 6-pounds of grapes (red, white or concord)
- Yeast culture
- 1-pound of sugar
- 2 wine bottles
- 2 corks
- Corking gun
- Fermentation barrel
2. Crush the grapes by hand or use a juicer. If you are making red wine, save the skins and add them to the grape juice.
3. Add the sugar to the juice if needed. If the grapes are sweet, you do not need to add sugar.
4. Add a tablespoon of yeast culture. Warm the juice to 75 degrees before adding the yeast. Do not add the yeast if the juice is above 80 degrees or the yeast culture will become inactive.
5. Place the cooled juice in a vat or large glass jar for 5 days.
6. Pour the juice into a barrel that holds the exact amount of juice that you have made. There should be no space at the top for air. Seal the barrel and place it in a dark room for one month.
7. Bottle the wine in clean and sterilized bottles. Place a cork securely in the bottle using the corking gun. Store the wine on its side in a dark location. The wine should age for at least a few months for full flavor.
