How to Make Home Decor Gifts
Choosing décor for someone else’s home can be difficult to do, so choose items that aren’t too taste specific. It can be hard to tell the homeowner's style, and you can’t predict when they will want to redecorate. Using a candle and fake flowers, you can make beautiful home décor gifts that are appropriate all year long.
Items Needed:
- Candle
- Fake plants and/or flowers
- Accessories, such as pine cones or Christmas bulbs
- Glue gun and glue sticks
- Wire cutter
- Basket
- Tissue paper
- Go to your local craft or hobby store that has candles, craft supplies and fake flowers or plants. Superstores may also have these supplies. If you’re unsure where a craft store is, browse the Internet or ask a friend. A dollar store or discount store may also have these items.
- Purchase a candle large enough to sit as a centerpiece on mantle, table or shelf. A white, cream or neutral color is ideal so the candle matches the home décor throughout the year. A light scent that all can enjoy is best, like vanilla or jasmine. Strange or bold scents are too taste specific.
- Get a vine of flowers or plants to go with each season. Sunflowers are great for fall, pine for winter, daisies or daffodils for spring and a tropical flower for the summer. You can also choose accessories like leaves, pine cones, Christmas bulbs, or anything seasonal to go with the plants and flowers. Grab a glue gun and glue sticks, and a wire cutter also.
- Find a basket to put the gift in, and some tissue paper. Instead of wasting money on a bag or box, a basket is something the homeowner can keep and use for their house.
- Measure the vines around the base of the candle, and cut with the wire cutters. Glue the ends of the vine together. You should be able to easily set the candle in the middle circle of the vine. This allows the homeowner to lift the candle out and put a new vine on display each season.
- Glue in all of the accessories that you’ve chosen to the select vines. Arrange the items until everything looks perfect.
- Line the basket with tissue paper and set the candles and vines inside. Cover with tissue paper, and the gift is ready to deliver.
