How to Make House Music
Making house music is the process of mixing different elements of music to create a new sound. This is done digitally with music editing software. Removing or adding any element of music will result in creating a unique piece of music. Knowledge of musical terms is very helpful in understanding the process of making house music.
Things You'll Need:
- A computer
- Music editing software
- MIDI interface
- MIDI controller
- Get familiar with your music program. Read the manual and experiment with it. You will want to know your editing software very well and feel comfortable with it.
- Learn your Musical Instrument Digital Interface, MIDI, program and controller and how to properly use the different features. You will be heavily dependent upon their functions in producing house music.
- Analyze your favorite tracks of music. Write down what happens in what bar to help yourself understand how the different elements work together and how they fit in the finished product.
- Get your beat and rhythm started. Play around with the drum kick. This will be the foundation of your music production. The tempo and beat of the music should be synchronized on the same count.
- Add different musical elements. Piano, saxophone, vocals and guitar are commonly used elements. Add these one at a time for the best blending solutions.
- Make a dummy track. Play the track and listen closely for any out of sync beats or elements. Edit anything that is off or not to your liking. Replay the dummy track after changes have been made. Continue to edit your music until you are happy with the end result.
- Save your music. Name your piece and save it to your hard drive on your computer.
