How to Make Kitchen Furniture Shaker Doors

Shaker kitchen cabinets are a great choice for kitchen decor. These type of cabinets are widely touted for being durable as well as aesthetically appealing. Installation of shaker cabinets is quite expensive, but a person with a decent amount of woodworking skills can build a set and save a considerable amount of money.

  Things you will need:

  • Tape measure

  • Saw

  • Plywood

  • Lumber

  • Router

  • Pipe clamps

  • Wood glue

  • Door hinge

  • Shaker bits

  • Shaker drill

  1. Take down measurements. Using a tape measure, measure the opening of the cabinet area. Be sure to deduct 3/4 inch from the depth and 1 1/2 inches from the width. The depth deduction is for the cabinet doors and the width deduction is for the side panels.

  2. Cut the cabinets. Use the saw to cut the cabinets using the measurements for the height and depth. Do this for all of the sides.

  3. Build the frame. Take each of the sides and line them up. Making sure they are flush, apply wood glue and pipe clamps to the sides. Secure the frame with nails.

  4. Build the cabinet door. Take the measurements of the frame and add another 2 inches to that for the door. Cut the lumber using those measurements. Use a router to cut the joint into the door pieces. Place the pieces side-by-side to make sure that they fit. Apply wood glue to the pieces and hold them together with pipe clamps while the glue dries.

  5. Sand the cabinet. Remove any excess glue from the cabinet and attach the door hinges and install the door pulls. The cabinet is now ready to be varnished.
