How to Make Saltwater Fishing Rigs
Ocean fishing can be a very satisfying experience. There are so many different fish species when fishing in saltwater. But, you can’t bring in any fish if you don’t know how to how to properly make a saltwater fishing rig.
Items needed:
- fiberglass or graphite fishing rod
- 30 pound test fishing line
- Bait or lure
- A Reel
- Weights or sinkers
- Purchase a fishing rod that can handle the size of fish you’re after. For example, if you’re fishing for ocean salmon, your rod should be able to withstand 50 pounds of pressure. You should also make sure your rod is made of fiberglass or graphite to avoid saltwater corrosion.
- Find a reel that can handle at least 30 pound test line. Saltwater fish are generally larger and require the use of heavier line than fresh water fish.
- Connect your rod and reel by following the manufacturer’s instructions. There are many types of reels, and there isn’t one set way to connect a reel to a rod.
- Thread your fishing line through the eye holes on your rod and tie it to your reel.
- Reel in line until your reel’s bail is about 75% full.
- Place a few sinkers on your line about a foot apart. The lowest sinker should sit one foot above your bait.
- Tie your hook onto the end of your line using a fisherman’s knot.
- Bait the hook using the appropriate bait to catch the fish you’re after. For example, ocean salmon prefer smaller fish as bait.
- Remember different fish require different line strengths, weights, rods, and baits. Before you bring a fishing pole to catch a shark, know what type of equipment you need to catch that specific type of fish.
