How to Make a USB Broadband Modem Connection Better
If you own a computer that does not have an Ethernet connection, then you may have to connect your computer to a broadband modem with a USB connection. A USB connection does not offer the speed that an Ethernet connection offers. However, there are ways to make the USB connection better and easier to deal with.
- Try resetting the broadband modem. Resetting the modem can help make a connection better sometimes. To rest your broadband modem, simply unplug the modem for 45 seconds. Plug the modem back up and see if the connection has improved. You can also do a hard reset by pressing the reset button on the modem. Hold the reset button in for 10 seconds until the modem resets.
- Purchase a USB to Ethernet adapter. This will allow you to connect to the broadband modem using a USB data cable on one end, and an Ethernet cable on the other end. The Ethernet cable will make the connection to the broadband modem faster. It will also make the connection much more reliable. USB only connections are known to drop quite a bit.
- Increasing your RAM in your computer can make it faster. This will give you a slight increase in connection speed and make your computer less likely to drop the connection to the modem. The computer should have at least 4 gigabytes of RAM installed to work in an efficient manner. If your installed RAM is less than that, it will lead to the system and all connections being much slower than they should be.
