How to Mow, Edge and Trim a Lawn
Mowing, edging and trimming a lawn are landscaping maintenance jobs that will improve the curb appeal of you home by thickening the lawn and creating neat, straight lines around the edges of the lawn and other landscaping such as flowerbeds and trees. You can have the best yard on the block if you take the time to regularly maintain your lawn.
- Adjust the height setting of the blades on the lawn mower to the desired height that you would like to cut the grass to. Refer to the manufacturer’s directions for adjusting the mower blades for the specific lawn mower you are using.
- Mow the grass as soon as it has grown to 1/3 of the desired blade adjustment. For example, if you set the blade adjustment for 3 inches, then you would cut the grass when it has grown 1 inch.
- Allow the clippings from the lawn to stay on the lawn and replenish the soil. This will improve the health of the soil and help the grass to grow in thicker and stronger. If the grass you are cutting has been allowed to become overgrown, you should then use the bag of the lawnmower to catch the clippings.
- Plug in the electric handheld edger you are using and place the roller wheel on the sidewalk or other material you are edging. Slowly roll the wheel along the edge so that the edger will create a neat straight line for you.
- Use handheld lawn sheers to trim the grass that is growing in around flowerbeds, trees and other landscaping elements to neatly cut down the grass to the desired length. Be sure that you cut the grass that you are trimming to the same height as you have adjusted the blades of the lawnmower to.
