How to Optimize a Cable Speed

Technological improvements have led to the need for faster Internet connections.  Internet service providers throttle their subscriber’s Internet cable broadband mbps amount. There are ways to increase your cable Internet speed without paying for an upgrade or changing your current provider.

  • Inspect all the wired connections and make sure the cables are secure at the wall connection and the modem. Check to make certain all the wires are in outstanding condition and there are no tattered edges. Bare wires need to be replaced with the help of a technician to inspect the connections outside of the home.

  • Search for software that might be running automatically in the background on your computer.  These programs use your bandwidth to automatically update programs on the Internet, which slows down your Internet browsing.

  • Close file sharing software, such as Bittorrent. These programs use a huge amount of bandwidth and should not be used often.

  • Disable programs that you do not use. Some of these programs start automatically every time you turn on the computer.  Download Ccleaner software to delete some programs permanently, or select which startup programs to run.

  • Enlarge the amount of disk space that your Internet browser allows for storing temporary Internet files. Doing this will allow disc space for more pages to be stored.  This results in faster loading of your most popularly used websites.

  • Download and set up antivirus software. Use good antivirus and antispyware software programs to clean up the system leading to faster browsing.
