How to Make Seven Layer Salads

How to Present Salads

Salad can be a great addition to any dish or a whole meal in itself.  There are many different types of salads you can make for a variety of occasions.  To make them look as fantastic as they taste, present your salads using a few easy techniques.

  1. Make your salads colorful.  Whether you are preparing salads out of fruits or vegetables, the easiest way to make them look fabulous is to add colorful elements throughout the dish.  The key to making your salad look beautiful without sacrificing taste is adding bright ingredients that will stand out.  When making a vegetable salad, consider adding tomatoes or carrots.  Reds and oranges look great against green vegetables such as lettuce and cucumber.  If you are making a fruit salad, use a lot of eye-catching fruits like ripe red strawberries and deep purple grapes.

  2. Get a special salad bowl.  Using the right salad bowl is one of the most important aspects of presenting your salad.   Salad bowls come in a variety of sizes, shapes, materials, patterns and colors.  Various types of bowls can be used for different purposes depending on the occasion you are cooking for and the type of salad you are preparing.  Glass and crystal bowls look elegant and sophisticated.  Wood bowls are classic and perfect for complimenting traditional table settings.  You can also get salad bowls that match the rest of your dinnerware if you are cooking for a special occasion and want everything to look flawless.

  3. Arrange your salad after placing it into the bowl.  Place a few additional elements on top of your salad after you are done plating it.  For example, you can add three different colors of bell peppers on top of a vegetable salad, or sprinkle cottage cheese on top of a fruit salad.  Experiment with the ingredients you have in your refrigerator, and don’t be afraid to get creative.
